Red Destroys Chicago Teacher Strike Commenter!

Boston, MA – So, Red blogged about the Chicago Teachers Strike the other day, and a commenter from Chicago chimed in. We welcome any and all commenters to share their points of view with us, otherwise, what are we doing here to begin with? But, when you challenge an Ivy League Educated Pro Bono blogger to an intelligent discussion, be prepared to lose.

Anonymous: You guys are all dumb asses, if your not from Chicago then you don’t know shit

Anonymous: Real immature, I happen to know those people and are all kind people. We CTU are not fighting for more money, the media will say what they want. Ctunet.com has info on what we are really fighting for. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet

Martin: (stalling for Red!) Most of us are from Boston, so we’re a little bit higher up on the intelligence stepladder when compared to those in the Midwest. For example, your sentence structure and use of punctuation, for lack of a better term, is fucking awful.

Red:  The WSJ (paper edition) says (among other things) that “you’re” fighting becuase Rahm Emannuel increased the school day from 5 hours 45 minutes to 7 hours, and he also “pushed to make teacher evaluations more reliant on student performance.” GASP! It goes on to mention that you rejected a 16% raise over four years, instead demanding 29% raises over TWO years. Also – ALSO – it says that you have one of the worst graduation rates in the country – 55%, and that about 6% of your high school students go on to get a four-year college degree. (That % goes down to 3% when you talk about African American and Hispanic boys.) Oh yeah, it also says that your shithole of a school system will be $3 billion dollars in the hole in the next three years, thanks to your insistence that you have ZERO accountability where it matters – student performance. Go Union!

Red:  Wrong again, Anonymous. The rest of the country knows exactly what’s going on. Your Union is interested only in siphoning money from the public at the DIRECT expense of your students who are learning nothing and their private economy parents who are making a houseold income of $47,000 a year. All while you make an average of $71K or $76K a year in salary (depending on who you believe) plus $15K a year in benefits. All of this despite the fact that you are turning out some of the shittiest students on the face of this great nation.
